GXO PERIMETER SECURITY

Learn how GXO reduced intrusions and improved safety with Asylon’s automated perimeter security systems.

CASE STUDY

As the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider, GXO needed a new approach to securing sprawling distribution centers. This case study explores how our robotic security technology helped meet that challenge.

CHALLENGE

GXO needed a scalable, innovative perimeter security solution to safeguard billions of dollars in assets while addressing labor shortages, coverage gaps, and rising security risks across its large distribution centers.

SOLUTION

Asylon deployed a full-service robotic security solution, including automated drones, DroneDog ground robots, and 24/7 RSOC monitoring, to deliver reliable, automated perimeter protection.

RESULT

GXO improved risk mitigation, achieved measurable crime reduction, enhanced safety, and optimized costs with 9,500+ drone missions and hundreds of miles patrolled by robotic assets.

FEATURES/STATS

IMPROVED RISK MITIGATION

Asylon’s security robotics platform combined air and ground solutions with centralized support for GXO. Our drone aerial system features the industry’s fastest automated battery swap, with less than five minutes of downtime compared to the 40 minutes typical of inductive charging. This allowed continuous back-to-back missions and expanded patrol coverage. Complementing the aerial system, the DroneDog ground unit—powered by Boston Dynamics’ Spot® and customized with Asylon’s PupPack and DogHouse—patrolled autonomously and recharged in a weatherized station.

Both systems were supported by Asylon’s Robotic Security Operations Center (RSOC), which provided real-time video feeds, teleoperation with <0.5 second latency, and 24/7 monitoring. Clear regulatory pathways enabled GXO to operate under an FAA BVLOS waiver, one of only five worldwide that authorized advanced operations such as nighttime patrols and operations over moving vehicles.

Before partnering with Asylon, GXO relied on traditional guard patrols to secure vast distribution centers—an approach that struggled to keep pace with rising security demands and a shrinking labor pool. Long perimeters, multiple access points, and frequent alarms made it difficult to maintain full coverage without escalating costs.

Recognizing the need for a smarter model, GXO turned to Asylon. Together, we rolled out a first-of-its-kind robotic perimeter security program that combined aerial drones with ground robotics and 24/7 RSOC oversight. Instead of simply taking over patrols, the technology transformed them, delivering faster alarm response, steady around-the-clock monitoring, and a clearer view of the entire site.

The impact went beyond numbers. Security staff were freed from repetitive, high-risk tasks and could focus on decision-making rather than manual patrols. Employees felt safer knowing robotic units handled alarms immediately. For GXO leadership, the program signaled a strategic shift—proof that innovation could strengthen both resilience and brand reputation.
