OPTIMIZING HIGH-EXPOSURE PERIMETER COVERAGE AT MERCEDES-BENZ STADIUM

Mercedes-Benz Stadium improves perimeter coverage with high-tech robot security dog.

CASE STUDY

Mercedes-Benz Stadium needed a dependable way to monitor publicly accessible areas around the venue, including The Home Depot Backyard. The objective was not simply to add robotic perimeter security, but to create consistent perimeter coverage that did not depend on fluctuating overnight staffing.

Since the implementation of DroneDog in our Home Depot Backyard, not only have we seen occurrences of theft and vandalism drop to zero, but we have also increased the safety for our employees.

CHALLENGE

The stadium perimeter includes plazas and walkways that remain open well beyond event hours. Unlike interior ticketed areas, these spaces are soft targets that cannot be secured with fixed access control. They require routine patrol and active monitoring.

Overnight coverage proved especially difficult to stabilize. Long patrol routes, graveyard shift staffing challenges, and rising overtime costs created operational strain. Guards were spending hours walking predictable routes, which limited flexibility and increased fatigue.

The security team needed a model that maintained consistent coverage across exposed areas without increasing headcount.

SOLUTION

In April 2023, Mercedes-Benz Stadium implemented full-service DroneDog surveillance through Asylon.

DroneDog is a ground-based security robot. It was assigned to routine perimeter patrols for exposed zones, including the Home Depot Backyard. During each patrol, live video and sensor data streamed to Asylon’s 24/7 Robotics’ Robotic Security Operations Center (RSOC), where operators monitored activity and verified alerts before notifying on-site security personnel.

This structure allowed patrol execution to remain consistent every night, while decision-making and response authority stayed with the stadium’s security team.

RESULT

Following deployment, perimeter patrols became more predictable and less dependent on overtime coverage. The monitored zone experienced zero incidents of theft or vandalism, and the stadium reported meaningful cost savings tied to reduced overtime.

FEATURES/STATS

IMPROVED PERIMETER SECURITY

The DroneDog deployment combined automated ground patrols with centralized RSOC oversight. Rather than relying entirely on manual patrol coverage, the stadium introduced a scheduled patrol model that maintained steady patrol frequency regardless of who was on duty.

RSOC operators reviewed alerts in real time and escalated only verified activity. As a result, on-site security responded to confirmed incidents instead of sorting through false alarms. The stadium security technology integrated into daily operations without requiring changes to established procedures.

STORY

CREATING STABILITY AT THE PERIMETER

Automated DroneDog security robot used for robotic perimeter security at a stadium venue and public-facing perimeter areas.

For Mercedes-Benz Stadium, introducing automated patrols did more than supplement guard coverage. It gave the security team clear insight into how often perimeter zones were monitored and what activity occurred in those areas.

Traditional patrols provided presence, but they did not consistently capture or document coverage. Staffing levels influenced how frequently guards walked certain routes, and reporting relied largely on what an officer observed and communicated at the end of a shift.

Robotic perimeter security gives the stadium a monitored patrol model with built-in oversight. The system runs scheduled routes and streams activity to the RSOC, where operators review alerts and escalate verified events to on-site teams. Instead of assigning officers to walk long, repetitive routes, the stadium directs its personnel toward assessment and response.

That change strengthened perimeter control. The stadium can now evaluate patrol frequency, review documented activity, and adjust coverage without restructuring staffing levels. As operational demands evolve, the model adapts without requiring a proportional increase in labor.

The program’s performance led Mercedes-Benz Stadium to extend the deployment under a multi-year agreement.
